Hooray it’s National French Fry Day! Is anyone else excited for some free french fries today? The only thing better than french fries are free french fries! Am I right?
Here are 5 ways to celebrate french fry day with your Pre-K students:
1. Freddie the Frog’s First French Fries Read Aloud – Students will love this sweet story about Freddie getting the chance to try out french fries! When you’re done reading, if possible (don’t forget any possible allergies) students can try some french fries as well (even if they are potato straws/sticks 🙂 ) .
2. French Fry Float – Children can get on the pool floats, and once they are on they have to think of a word that rhymes with fry (e.g. pie, cry, tie, my, sigh). Also, teachers/parents you can write numbers or letters on the fries, and students will practice identifying them.
3. Fast Food Dramatic Play – Students can pretend to work in a fast food restaurant. They will practice identifying the different food/drink items. Then they will sell french fries to customers who come to their store. Students will also practice counting the food items as well as money their customers give them. I highly recommend this cash register. Here’s the fast food play set. I love that it’s a wooden set, which will help it last longer.
4. French Fry Fidget – Children can practice identifying numbers, letters, or shapes using this pop fidget toy. Teachers can write letters or numbers on the toy, and students will push the bubble while saying that letter or number.
5. French Fry Fun – Students will have so much fun with this plush french fry toy! Each fry has a smiley face on it. Students can practice the feeling/emotion of being happy, by smiling to their friend. Each fry is also removable, so students can also practice their motor skills by pulling the fries out, and placing them back in the fry container. As they do this, they can also count the number of fries. Finally, students can identify the different colors on the fries and fry container.
Have a terrific Tuesday! Don’t forget to treat yourself to some french fries 🙂
